I might have been interested in attending this event were I assured it was going to be a single sex group exclusive to women who were born female. I don’t dispute the need to destigmitise and inform all about the issues but I would want to speak frankly with others who had shared, or would one day share, my experience rather than in a mixed group including men or men identifying as female. Neither of these groups will ever know what it is like to experience the menopause. I am aware that there will be many women who feel the same as me for a range of cultural reasons. Perhaps future events could cater for those of us who feel this way. Thanks. Reply Hi Cathy, Thanks for your input. We appreciate that some women may prefer to speak about the menopause in women-only groups, but that’s not what a Menopause Café is since our events are open to all ages and all genders. I hope you can find (or form) a women-only group. I believe some already exist eg Sharon Tuschick runs a women-only wgroup called My Beautiful Ladies for women to share their experiences on any gynaecological topics. I believe she has face to face groups throughout the UK, but best to check with her. The Facebook group is here https://www.facebook.com/groups/MyBeautifulLadies/ You are certainly not alone, many women prefer to speak in a women-only group, or even a support group exclusively for menopausal women. It’s just not what we do, since our remit is about awareness raising and education, as much as about support. I hope you find what you are looking for, Best wishes, Rachel Weiss Reply Hi m slightly astounded that this is/was an open group ??? The menopause is incredibly isolating and it’s a shame that Cardiff cant take ‘womens’ (those born female) seriously. Reply It is not unusual for women only support groups to form after people have attended a Menopause Cafe Kallan, so maybe it is still a place to start. Menopause Cafe is about raising awareness. We want the whole of society talking about menopause because menopause affects everyone. Yes the effect may be indirect but that means those people have even less knowledge of the impact menopause has. We understand that our format doesn’t suit everybody but it does work for many. I hope you find what you are looking for. Reply Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
