Event Details
Motherwell Cheshire CIO have created an online peer to peer support group that will meet online via Zoom once a month. This group is aimed at people going through or supporting someone going through an early, surgical or medical menopause.
- Has your menopause been medically induced due to cancer or a gynaecological condition
- Or has happened naturally earlier than it should have?
- Has your menopause journey been started due to surgery to remove all or some of your reproductive system?
This group is patient led and we are not medical professionals but we have created a safe space where you can talk to or listen to other women who could be in a similar position to yourself.
Natalie Coomer one of the facilitators of the group started her menopause journey at 32 with POI and ended up going through a surgical menopause at 37 due to a total hysterectomy for endometriosis & Adenomyosis. Now at 39 she is still very much in the middle of her journey. Natalie also co-facilitates in our face to face menopause cafes.
Early menopause is the cessation of ovarian function between 40 and 45 years, in the absence of other causes of secondary amenorrhoea.
Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) is a clinical syndrome defined as the transient or permanent loss of ovarian function before the age of 40 years.
Surgical menopause occurs when both of your ovaries are removed using a surgical approach (called a bilateral oophorectomy) before you’ve gone through a natural menopause. This causes a sudden onset of the menopause after the surgery.
Medically induced menopause is the use of hormone blocking medications to intentionally induce menopause as part of the treatment of certain diseases or conditions for example oestrogen receptive cancers or prior to surgery for a gynaecological condition. It happens much faster than natural menopause, and it often causes more severe symptoms.
