Menopause.
How many conversations have been stopped short by the introduction of these nine little letters?
Too many.
At the Menopause Café we want to interrupt this narrative of awkward silence. We want to get the whole world talking about menopause.
It seems so too, do many of you.
@SamBunch1967 says on Twitter of the concept of a Menopause Café; ‘Genius! In a world that is full of disconnection this was a perfect tonic. Loving the conversations and the sense of community.’
Our community is open to all, whether you join us on social media, at a virtual Menopause Café, or in person at some point in the hopefully-not-too-distant future. We have created an accessible, confidential space for people of all ages and genders to get together and explore the myriad realities of menopause.
According to a recent study by Nuffield Health, approximately 13 million women in the UK are currently either peri- or post-menopausal. Forbes magazine provides a global comparison; by 2025 there will be over 1 billion women experiencing menopause in the world. So many women sharing this experience across the world, and yet we so rarely talk about it.
Everyone’s experience of the menopause will be slightly different but there is also so much that we have in common. There is so much we could learn from one another, about managing the impacts of menopause on our health, relationships, work and so much more.
To do so we have to speak up.
Our conversations are informal – usually taking place alongside a generous serving of coffee and cake! – and are conducted with no intention of leading people to any conclusion, product or course of action. We simply provide a space for people to talk openly and honestly about menopause.
It really is that simple.
This year, the conversation is growing as we celebrate #FlushFest2021, the world’s only menopause festival, sponsored by Lindsays and Rowan Consultancy.
#FlushFest2021 is a volunteer run festival whose aim is to inspire and educate people of all ages and genders about menopause whilst having lots of fun along the way.
